If you’re a fan of hit Netflix shows Bridgerton and Sex Education, you’re in for a treat. Bridgerton season 2 will feature Sex Ed actor Simone Ashley in the leading role of Kate Sharma, who becomes entangled with none other than Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey).
Deadline reported the news on February 15. “Newly arrived in London, Kate is a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included,” Netflix shared about the character of Kate. Shonda Rhimes’s Bridgerton is more or less following the structure of the original Julia Quinn romance novels, with each book focusing on a different Bridgerton sibling.
You’ll likely recognize Simone from her iconic role in Sex Education as Olivia Hanan, one of the members of popular kid posse The Untouchables at Moordale Secondary. The 25-year-old has also appeared in Pokémon Detective Pikachu, among other projects.
While season 2 of Bridgerton doesn’t yet have a release date, we know the show will shift its focus away from Daphne and the Duke and toward Anthony as he tries to find a suitable marriage match. In the first season, his storyline revolves around his relationship with opera singer Siena (Sabrina Bartlett), a relationship that is destined to end poorly because of Anthony’s insistence he marry someone of the same social class.
In an interview with British Vogue, Jonathan teased season 2 and the arrival of more new characters. “I feel like the campy, plush spectacle of the Bridgerton world is only going to get more pronounced in the best way possible. It’s mad, and it’s brilliant,” he told the outlet. “There are also going to be a lot of brilliant characters introduced in this series – and it’s not just Anthony that we’re going to delve into… The robust universe that’s been set up by Shonda and Chris will just expand, and keep pushing boundaries in a way that’s quietly subversive. There’s just going to be more of what everyone loves, I think.”
