Cardi B Said She’s Not Biden’s “Pawn,” Wasn’t Paid by Campaign

In the days leading up to the 2020 presidential election, Cardi B made her feelings on a possible reelection of Donald Trump known. She had frequently used her platform as a means of educating followers on issues of political importance, and she led interviews with Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders. Some had accused the rapper of possibly receiving payments for her efforts, but she’s since denied those claims, making her mission clear via an Instagram post.

On Saturday, November 7, Cardi B addressed the previous criticism she had received in an Instagram post, writing, “Couple of weeks ago I was getting chewed up by Trump supporters over this interview.”

Sharing a clip of her interview with Biden, she acknowledged that she had been nervous to even participate in a Zoom call with the candidate, but moved forward anyway, writing, “It was important for my followers to get to know our running candidate and future president.”

Continuing, Cardi B denied that she had been used as a “pawn” by the Biden campaign, writing, “They said Biden use me as a pawn then weeks later we seen a list of rappers and artists that Trump was trying to reach out to and to pay for support a list that included my name. I never got payed a dollar from Biden I just wanted to get to know him and open my fans up to the importance of voting.”

Cardi then applauded other celebrities that had chosen to participate in similar means of voter education, writing, “Don’t let nobody down play you for what you doing that’s how they try to take away your power .YOUR POWER IS YOUR VOICE!” Closing the message, she congratulated Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris on their victory.

Over the weekend, Biden and Harris were named the next President and Vice President of the United States. According to multiple news outlets, on November 7, Biden surpassed the necessary 270 electoral votes needed to secure a projected win. Other celebrities, including Lizzo and Ariana Grande, joined Cardi B in social media celebrations of the win, while people across the United States took to the streets, participating in a day of dancing and celebrations.
