Interview With Carrie Berk
How does it feel to be a teen best-selling author?
I am honored and humbled that I have the opportunity to empower others through my writing.
I hope that by reading my books, people learn something new about themselves and the world and are inspired to embrace their individuality unapologetically.
Are you currently working on any pieces?
Ask Emma: Boy Trouble comes out this fall and I just read a copy edit of my manuscript and made a few changes.
It’s all about Emma’s relationship with Jax, and I’m super excited for fans to see how their connection develops. Without giving away any plot spoilers, I can tell you it’s complicated!
Additionally, every day, I am writing articles for Carrie’s Chronicles on topics ranging from fashion, beauty, and health to celeb interviews.
I always love talking to teen celebs who are movers and shakers using their fame to make the world a better place.
I just published a great interview with singer Bianca Ryan, the first-ever winner of America’s Got Talent (https://www.carrieschronicles.com/blog/bianca-ryan-on-her-agt-journey).
What is your favorite thing to write about?
All three of my book series have strong anti-bullying messages. As someone who was bullied and cyber bullied when I was younger, I made it my goal to spread awareness through my books.
The characters each have their own struggles with bullying but come out stronger and more confident in the end.
It’s a lesson I personally had to learn, so that helps me convey the emotions the characters experience in an authentic and relatable way.
Tell us more about your no-bully campaign/work with no-bully
I am a teen ambassador for No Bully, a non-profit organization that does an amazing job of going into schools and teaching kids how to practice empathy towards each other from a very young age.
Their goal is to eradicate bullying worldwide, and they’re making great strides.
Recently, I teamed up with No Bully and The Kind Coalition to write the script for “Girls Against Bullying,” a public service announcement video encouraging tweens and teens to lift each other up instead of tear each other down. We are the future, and it’s crucial that we lead with respect.
What advice do you have for other young teens who want to become authors?
Write as much as you can. The more you write, the more you develop your unique voice and the stronger that voice will get.
You should also be open to feedback and criticism, no matter how scary that may be. It will only help you improve in the long run.
How does it feel to have such a big voice to teenagers as you do?
I am humbled that my platform has inspired so many. I feel like I’m just getting started, and I have a responsibility to keep spreading my message and positivity whenever and wherever I can.
When you are in the writing process what do you use as inspiration to help you finish your pieces?
When I have writer’s block, I often find it best to step away and let inspiration come naturally.
Never force it–motivation from people, places, or objects can strike at any moment. Just have a pencil and paper ready once it does. Sometimes, I even dream up some ideas in my sleep!
You mentioned “your style is your superpower”, what an inspiring saying. What is your favorite place to shop at?
I love Revolve. They have a great range of clothing on their site and are on top of today’s trends. I am always eager to purchase a piece and put my own personal spin on it.
It was a true honor to interview Carrie Berk, she is a true inspiration and she has a big future ahead of her. Make sure you checkout her Carrie Chronicles.
