A$AP Mob Announce 5th Annual Yams Day Concert

Since his passing in 2015, the A$AP Mob have paid tribute to founder Steven “A$AP Yams” Rodriguez with their annual Yams Day concert. And, as expected, they officially kick off their 2020 with the fifth installment.

The Mob have announced that the 5th Annual Yams Day will take place Friday, January 17. It will once again happen at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, where it was for its predecessor earlier this year. While the 2018 version was marred by a concert-ending brawl backstage, this aims to keep the same peace as its 2019 installment.

While no lineup has been formally announced yet outside of the Mob themselves (read: they’re still trying to book everyone), tickets for the event will go on sale this Friday (November 15th).

Watch a video that Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong sent to a fan after she hung up on him – twice

The clip from 23 years ago has surfaced online

A video has surfaced online showing a message sent by Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong to a fan who hung up on him twice after assuming it was a prank call. Check it out below.

Recorded in 1996, the clip was shared by Reddit user u/jmsmnn along with the story of how his wife sent fanmail to Armstrong before he attempted to call her. She didn’t believe it was real so hung up on him, and later attempts to get back in touch failed. In the video, Armstrong assures the fan that it’s really him by showing off a Valentine’s Day card she’d sent, as well as a Green Day flyer and a letter he was sending back.

“In 1996, Billie Joe Armstrong took time to call my wife when she was 15,” they wrote. “She would send him letters often. One day he called her house to thank her,” he shared. “Being a young girl from a small town, she couldn’t believe it was really him so she assumed it was a prank call and hung up on him. His wife immediately called back to try to convince her it was real. She hung up on her too.

“A week or so later a package showed up with a video in it. In the video he held up the letters she had sent him and thanked her for them.”

Armstrong recently made headlines when he sent “love and positive everything” to his son Joey’s band SWMRS after they were involved in a van accident. Joey then shared a message with fans assuring them that all concerned were on the mend and taking time to recover.

As they warm up for their ‘Hella Mega’ UK, European and US joint tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer, the band recently surprised fans by playing their seminal 1994 album ‘Dookie’ in full at a gig in Madrid.

Green Day release their new album ‘Father Of All…’ on February 7, 2020.

Fans of the 1975 are planting trees to honour the band’s pledge to climate change

“It’s the coolest thing ever”

Fans of The 1975 are being called on to plant trees in the band’s honour and commitment to climate change.

Natalie Corwin, CEO of Pet Community Centre and board member at Turnip Green Creative Reuse in Nashville, urged the band’s followers to get planting at a special event in New Orleans on November 26.

In a message, which was shared by frontman Matty Healy, she wrote: “Fans of @the1975 unite! Let’s plant trees to honour our favourite band and what they stand for. Let’s plant a future! Join us Nov 26 in New Orleans or sponsor a tree if you can’t be there in person!”

Healy also wrote in a message to his fans: “People are starting to set these up and it’s THE COOLEST THING EVER.”

It comes after the frontman recently praised the spirit of climate activist Greta Thunberg, hailing her “the most punk person he’s ever met”. The 16-year-old has become a global figurehead of ongoing protests to fight climate change, making headlines with her rousing speech to the UN in September.

Meanwhile, Healy has voiced his support for a teenager who is currently facing 16 years in prison in Iran.

In a new post on Instagram that has been re-shared by Amnesty International, he said: “It was International Women’s Day 2019 when Yasaman [Aryanı] and her mother took off their headscarves and walked through a women-only train carriage in Tehran, handing out flowers.

“Yasaman’s cruel punishment is part of a wider crackdown on women campaigning against discriminatory forced veiling laws in Iran. The Iranian authorities must not be allowed to rob Yasaman of the best years of her life – simply because she believes women should have the right to choose what they wear.”

Kodak Black sentenced to 46 months in prison on federal weapons charge

Rapper found guilty of lying while trying to purchase firearms on two separate occasions

Kodak Black has been sentenced to 46 months in prison after providing false information in order to purchase firearms.

The south Florida rapper, real name Bill K. Kapri, was arrested in Miami back in May and pleaded guilty to the charges in August.

Kodak was found guilty of lying while trying to purchase firearms on two separate occasions, indicating on paperwork “that he was not under indictment or information in any court for a felony, or any other crime for which the judge could imprison him for more than one year,” reports the Miami Herald.

The maximum sentence he could have received for the charges he faced was 10 years.

“I’m sorry for the actions that led me to where I’m standing,” said Black, following the sentence. “I do take full responsibility for my mishap.”

Kodak has been incarcerated in a federal detention centre in Miami since his arrest. A federal judge previously denied the rapper’s request for bond due to his existing criminal record, describing him as “a danger to the community”.

He had been previously indicted on sexual assault charges in South Carolina in 2016 and was out on bond at the time of his arrest in Miami. Kodak was also arrested in mid-April at the US-Canada border for possession of marijuana and a firearm.

The rapper’s last album, ‘Dying To Live’, was released back in December.
