Demi Lovato Joked About Her Engagement to Ex-Fiancé Max Ehrich

2020 has sucked for basically everyone, but Demi Lovato is taking her bumpy year in stride. Serving as host for Sunday’s E! People’s Choice Awards ceremony, the star opened up about her pretty relatable year, touching on everything from the end of her relationship with Max Ehrich to her recent streaming choice.

Nearly two months ago, sources for both Demi and Max confirmed that after two months of dating and an engagement, the pair had decided to split. While Max later addressed the split numerous times on social media, Demi kept relatively quiet, only releasing a surprise song that many speculated was about the end of her relationship.

On Sunday, Demi was down to crack a brief joke about the relationship, beginning her People’s Choice monologue by saying, “This year has been the longest three years of my life. Don’t get me wrong, it started out amazing. I performed at the Grammys, and sung “The National Anthem” at the Super Bowl, but then COVID hit.”

She continued, noting that when so much of the United States was forced to close, she made a change in plans. “I did what everyone else did,” she said. “I went into lockdown mode and got engaged…tested the limits of Postmates Unlimited. I reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars. Got unengaged, and then I went looking for aliens in the desert. So, basically the same as everyone else.”

Much of YouTube agreed with Demi’s sentiments on the year, saying, “Love her sense of humor” and “I wasn’t expecting her to talk about the engagement and I was SHOCKED but yess gurlll!!!” The singer didn’t go on to reveal what the rest of her year might include, but based on her frequent surprise song drops, it’s likely that we’ll hear more from her soon.
