Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding in New “Last Christmas” Trailer Are Holiday Rom-Com Couple Goals
Plenty of modern movies have made it into the holiday movie Hall of Fame; think The Holiday, Love Actually, and Elf. These films are so beloved that they’ve become treasured classics, and a holiday-season rewatch has become a tradition. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding are teaming up for a new holiday movie, Last Christmas, and we’ve got a feeling it’s about to join the Christmas movie canon. And yes, the iconic song by Wham! does make an appearance!
The trailer for the movie, which is directed by Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, dropped on August 13 and it’s got us eagerly awaiting November 8. In it, a young woman named Kate, played by Emilia, suffers from a serious bout of very, very bad luck. She’s working as — you guessed it — a holiday elf at a Christmas store, where she meets a goodhearted young man named Tom, played by Henry, and after a bird poops in her eye, they soon fall in love. With Tom’s help, Kate begins to ditch her cynicism and embrace the spirit of the holidays, which includes singing carols in public, volunteering at a homeless shelter, skating under holiday lights, and kissing Henry Golding. Love Actually star Emma Thompson appears as Kate’s mom, and Henry’s Crazy Rich Asians costar Michelle Yeoh appears as Kate’s boss at the Christmas store.
We’re not the only ones excited about a new holiday movie. Fans took to Twitter to express their excitement over the trailer, enthusing over Henry’s dreaminess and Emilia’s comedic skills. “Last Christmas is about to become a classic holiday movie I’m already excited to watch this every year,” tweeted one fan, who has already got a plan for the future. “If Last Christmas wasn’t your most anticipated movie of the year before it is now,” added another. One Twitter user had an idea about Henry’s character, Tom, writing, “If he turns out to be some sort of angel who doesn’t hang around I’m gonna be so mad but also probably not because this is already one of my fave movies of all time.”
Last Christmas is the first time we’ll really get to see Emilia flex her comedy chops, and from the trailer, it appears that the former Queen of Dragons is aces as making us laugh. Last Christmas hits theaters on November 8, just in time for the holidays.
