As the premiere of HBO Max’s reimagined Gossip Girl draws ever closer, fans are getting their first look at what the debut episodes might include. On Wednesday, January 6, new Gossip Girl director Karena Evans confirmed that filming on episodes one and two has wrapped, and she celebrated by sharing a few images from the set.
Due to COVID-19, the Gossip Girl premiere date was pushed back from its original November 2020 timeline to sometime in 2021. While an exact premiere date remains unconfirmed, details regarding the reboot continue to emerge, including Wednesday’s images, JustJaredJr. reported.
Sharing the Instagram images, Karena confirmed editing on the episodes would now begin. Her accompanying slideshow contained a few Polaroid snaps, as well as a view from the behind the camera, which captured characters Julien Calloway (Jordan Alexander) and Zoya Lott (Whitney Peak) sitting in the backseat of a car, laughing, and dancing along to music. In her lead Instagram image, Karena was photographed speaking with Jordan.
The on-set snaps arrive after character names and personalities were revealed. The official Gossip Girl Instagram account introduced viewers to the newest residents of the Upper East Side, and along with their names, the show used one word to describe their personalities.
Prior to the grand character reveal, some had speculated about possible plot lines when photos of filming, which started back up in October 2020, had emerged. The cast, outfitted in some serious fashion, was spotted filming on the always iconic GG location — the Met steps. Fans had theorized that Julien could be the Queen Bee and Zoya could be this show’s Jenny Humphrey. However, until the show premieres, that’s a secret HBO Max won’t tell.
