Another member of the new cast — Tavi Gevinson — was also spotted in photos from the Met steps, where she wears a Constance sweater. She was also captured standing with fellow castmate Adam Chanler-Berat for a second scene, where the two looked to be closely studying a phone. It’s difficult to gauge her age in the series, since she looks close with Adam Chanler-Berat’s character (who would likely be in his early 30s), but also with the students at Constance.
Fans on Twitter acted as their own Gossip Girl, sharing the photos with extreme excitement. “Listen nothing can beat the original but I’m actually excited for the gossip girl reboot,” one person tweeted. While others noted their fashionable outfits, writing, “The gossip girl reboots cast is serving fr.”
Originally scheduled for a 2020 release, the reboot will now reportedly debut in 2021. Delayed due to COVID-19, the series had not yet begun filming when the delay was announced in May 2020.
There’s no word on whether any members of the original Gossip Girl cast may return for a cameo, but Kristen Bell is set to reprise her role as narrator. Additionally, Eric Daman, the original GG costume designer is returning, and perhaps these photos contained a first peek at some of his looks.
Not everything is set to remain the same, though. Those involved with the reboot planned to include more people of color and queer content. Joshua Safran, a writer and executive producer who worked on the former Gossip Girl and will return for the new one, previously confirmed that the show will feature a diverse cast. “There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show,” he said. “I was the only gay writer I think the entire time I was there. Even when I went to private school in New York in the ’90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl. So, this time around the leads are nonwhite.”
