SALT LAKE CITY — Three people were charged Tuesday in connection with a robbery at a Salt Lake Quiznos that resulted in two of the suspects being shot by a store manager.
Court documents reveal that Cody Shane Durrant, 36, of Kearns, and Lacie Flora Dewart, 32, are married and Dewart is a former employee at Quiznos. Durrant was charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. Dewart and Matthew Dean Forrest, 33, are listed as co-defendants.
On June 20, the trio entered Quiznos, 1775 S. 4130 West, just as the store was closing. Police say it was a “takeover-style robbery” with the intruders waiving a gun and locking the door behind them after entering.
“Durrant then jumped over the counter and began emptying the cash register,” the charges state.
The three then ran toward the kitchen where the safe is kept, according to court documents. The restaurant manager tried to keep the group out by pushing on the door as Dewart and Durrant tried to forced their way in, according to the charges.
The store manager, who was armed with her own handgun, fired four to five rounds through the crack in the door, injuring Dewart. At that point, Durrant and Forrest ran from the store.
Forrest also sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the incident, according to the court documents filed Tuesday.
Three days later, Durrant surrendered the police. On Monday, Forrest also surrendered.
Police say the gun used by the defendants was determined to be an airsoft gun.
