This week has been chock full o’ casting news and today appears to be no different. Word has reached the virtual water cooler that Kate Hudson (ALMOST FAMOUS, DEEPWATER HORIZON) will star opposite Octavia Spencer (THE SHAPE OF WATER, ONWARD) in Season 2 of Apple’s Truth Be Told.
Created by Nichelle Tramble Spellman and produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment, and Endeavor Content, Many consider Truth Be Told to be something of an anthology series, much like the USA drama The Sinner and NBC’s Trial and Error. The set up has a primary character at its core, with new characters being introduced as the series continues on to new chapters. Season 2, which is said to focus on America’s obsession with true crime podcasts, is scheduled to begin production in Los Angeles on October 26. (via Deadline)
According to reports, Hudson will play Micah Keith, a lifestyle guru and longtime friend of Poppy Parnell (Spencer), as a new case that deeply involves both women unfolds and quickly puts their relationship to the ultimate test.
Hudson’s Hollywood star began to rise after she starred as Penny Lane for Cameron Crowe‘s ALMOST FAMOUS. Shortly thereafter, she appeared in a number of romantic comedies, including HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, THE DIVORCE, YOU, ME, AND DUPREE, MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL, and of course, SOMETHING BORROWED. Since that time, Hudson has starred alongside Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg‘s DEEPWATER HORIZON, and opposite Chadwick Boseman and Josh Gad in Reginald Hudlin‘s MARSHALL. Currently, Hudson is in the midst of filming SHRIVER, in which she stars as Simone Cleary. The aforementioned film focuses on a handyman living in New York City who is mistaken for a famous and famously reclusive writer and brought to a university where he is to deliver a keynote address.
We’ll be sure to bring you more details for Truth Be Told as the second season continues to take shape.
