Kayla Treanor Takes Over The Orange

Following the recent departure of Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Gary Gait to lead the men’s team, the Orange have announced Kayla Treanor as his successor.

Treanor becomes just the third Head Coach in program history. Although the women’s program is much younger than the men’s (which recently passed the 100 year mark), there is still remarkable stability for head coaches at Syracuse.

Treanor is one of the most accomplished alumni in Syracuse lacrosse history.

She was a fourth year starter, earning first team All-American honors each year. She was also a three time Tewaaraton Award finalist and ended her career in Syracuse as the program’s all-time leading goal scorer.

Despite the scoring volume, she also contributed by winning a significant number of draw controls in her final year.

Following her time in Syracuse, Treanor was a member of the 2017 gold medal winning US Women’s National Team, which went alongside her gold from the 2011 U19 Women’s Championship.

In terms of coaching, she spent on season with the Harvard team following her graduation from Syracuse in 2016 before moving across town to Boston College where she would eventually hold the title of Associate Head Coach.

The Eagles were an immediate championship contender until this past season when the would win their school’s first title, beating Gait’s Orange team.

This announcement is also a significant one for the Orange as it means an alumna is able to take over the reigns following one of the team’s most successful seasons on record.

Overcoming some significant injuries, the 2021 squad was able to play its way into the national championship game. The team is loaded with talent already on the roster entering 2022.

Given Treanor’s success at BC and her history with Syracuse, her appointment is a positive step forward for the program.

Gary Gait helped elevate the squad into national prominence, and Treanor was a major part of that effort. Now she gets to build upon what’s already a proven success, and turn a deserving group of athletes into national champions.
