Not too long ago in our very own galaxy, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was tapped to produce a new STAR WARS feature film. Now, Feige has selected the person who will write the latest chapter in George Lucas’ universe.
Michael Waldron, creator of the upcoming Disney+ series Loki, will write the new Star Wars movie. Based on the existing working relationship between Waldron and Feige, this speaks volumes about the producer’s confidence in bringing Waldron on board for this big production. Waldron’s career started as a writing assistant on Community as well as scripting episodes of Rick and Morty. He is also credited as a writer on the upcoming wrestling series Heels starring Stephen Amell as well as Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Disney has declined to comment on the news of Waldron’s involvement, but many recent rumors from Marvel Studios, including the casting of Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk, have panned out. There is no word on the plot of Feige’s Star Wars movie, but based on Waldron’s resume thus far, I would anticipate that it will toe the franchise line but venture into comedic and unique aspects of the mythology.
According to reports, whispers of Feige heading up a Star Wars project first began shortly after Avengers: Endgame and before the launch of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was on a mission to plot a new era of Star Wars movies and had received word about Feige’s enthusiasm for the franchise. Considering how well-orchestrated the MCU has been under Feige’s leadership, it came as no shock at all when word about his involvement was eventually confirmed. For the moment, no production plans have been revealed for Feige and Waldron’s Star Wars film. Be that as it may, Waldron coming aboard certainly pushes things in a forward direction.
The future is looking bright for Star Wars, my friends. We’ll be sure to update you as soon as we know more about this exciting development.
