CCR: AVST gel is a low form of vitamin A, it’s the lowest form of vitamin A that we work with. Vitamin A, being a great educator of the skin. For me, I would say the primary ingredient that I care about [in my skincare routine] is vitamin A. So AVST Gel actually helps with everything from abating blemishes to proper lipid barrier function. It’s a superb product because it’s a gel so you can layer it. As an adult, I use it. I actually used it earlier today. And as a kid, I think it’s great because it serves as your intro to moisturizer.
The other thing that we both use, ingredient-wise, in different forms is hyaluronic acid. I think for her, it’s a way for her to get moisture without the heaviness because it’s such a light formula. For me, obviously, it gives me that sort of lift from within, what makes me look like I’m not as draggy and old as I really am. But we don’t use the same formulation of it. I love a serum or I love something that’s a little bit more robust with multiple sizes of molecules of hyaluronic. Hers is in her products that she already uses.
TV: What advice would you give to someone just starting out with their skincare routine? What are the three must-have products?
RR: Three things that someone definitely should start out with are: a cleanser, I think, because it just cleans your skin. And then toner, which is my B3, which I love as you know. And then AVST Gel, probably. That’s like a moisturizer.
CCR: I would totally agree with that.
TV: What’s one beauty ritual that you both do together?
CCR: We wash our face together. We both like to wash our faces. We also definitely keep each other company when we take baths. We get to have good chat time. So one of us will sit on the outside of the bath and the other will be in the bath and we’ll have a good chat. More than anything, I almost feel like it’s rare for us to do something together because I think we both see it as a time to go within and pamper the self. For us, our beauty is a lot about our community and sharing with other people. We do spend a lot of energy on that. But I think when it comes to our own stuff, we don’t do it as much together. However, we both really like getting our nails done.
TV: What’s one thing that you both admire about each other?
RR: Something that I really admire about my mom is that she’s dedicated to what she does to make women and girls feel confident. I really value that because basically just being with her always makes me feel good. It makes my friends feel good because they know that it’s always a very safe space and that they’re loved and happy.
CCR: What do I most admire about you? I mean, so many things. I think that your sticktoitiveness and your ability to continue on a path is really inspiring to me. I think the way that you can adopt a good habit and continue with a good habit. You see it in your schoolwork, you see it with your friends, you see it with everything that you do. And I think you are always kind. And I love that. I love that you’re a sunny, kind person. I admire that. I feel like I really aim to be always as kind as I can be and as sunny as I can be. And I feel like you are really good about like no matter what’s happening, no matter what happens five seconds before, you’re like, “This is not your problem. I will be sunny with you,” which I love.
