Stay tuned to our live simulcast of MLB Network’s coverage, with the National League MVP set to be announced. The finalists for the honor in the NL are Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman, Padres third baseman Manny Machado and Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts, who won the 2018 AL MVP Award with the Red Sox and can join Frank Robinson as just the second player to be named MVP in each league.

Abreu was a huge presence in helping the White Sox make their first postseason appearance in 12 years. His seventh season began with the signing of a three-year, $50 million deal to remain in Chicago, and he responded by leading the AL in RBIs for a second straight season. Abreu was second in MLB with 19 home runs and fourth in the AL with a .317 batting average.

Abreu finished in the top 5 in the AL in home runs, RBIs, batting average, hits (76, first), slugging percentage (.617, first), extra-base hits (34, first), total bases (148, first) and OPS (.987, fifth).

Abreu was also invaluable as a mentor and confidant to the White Sox young stars. His MVP Award will fit nicely in a trophy case that already has the 2014 AL Rookie of the Year Award.
