Report: White Sox, Twins, Reds join Yankees in pursuit of MadBum

The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins are among the “heaviest suitors” for free-agent left-hander Madison Bumgarner, sources told Andy Martino of SNY on Wednesday.

The New York Yankees remain linked to the four-time All-Star as well after being reported as a potential suitor for the veteran southpaw in November.

The White Sox have been aggressively chasing pitching and missed out on Zack Wheeler and Cole Hamels, who signed with the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, respectively. The club reportedly offered Wheeler more money, but the right-hander chose Philadelphia instead.

Likewise, the Twins were said to be in on Wheeler and other free-agent arms.

Additionally, the Cincinnati Reds have also emerged in the Bumgarner sweepstakes, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The Reds don’t have a left-hander projected to open the season in the rotation, which could make Bumgarner a logical target.

Prior to Wheeler inking his deal, Bumgarner’s market was apparently gaining similar steam. One executive predicted that both hurlers would ink contracts before the winter meetings start on Dec. 8, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Bumgarner, 30, is coming off a season where he went 9-9 with a 3.90 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 34 starts. His 207 2/3 innings were his most since 2016.
