Welcome to ‘Teen Vogue Tries,’ a series where Teen Vogue editors try out some of the newest releases – from fashion to beauty and beyond – to help you go beyond the hype.
Since its launch in September 2019, Kim Kardashian’s Skims line has been turning skeptics into fans. Look up reviews for Skims online and you’ll find the majority are overwhelmingly positive. Whether it is cozy knits, practical body tape, stylish loungewear, OG shapewear, or even face masks, the brand has proven to have a little something that just wins customers over. That’s why, when the brand announced its new Silk collection earlier this month, we at Teen Vogue thought, what better way to see if it’s worth it than to try it out ourselves?
Skims’ Silk collection offers six different styles in four different colors – honey, sienna, cocoa, and rose). The pieces come in sizes XXS to 4X and prices range from $108 for the “Silk Teddy” to $258 for the “Silk Sleep Robe.” Falling into the loungewear bracket, there’s no doubt this is the brand’s most luxurious drop to date. Whether you’re looking to treat yourself or looking to give a glamorous gift to someone special, here, three Teen Vogue editors try out some of the pieces from the collection and tell you what you need to know before adding to cart.
The past year has turned me into a walking Skims model – in my house, of course. Before our lives significantly changed, I became addicted to the brand’s body tape because it allowed me to wear clothing I’ve never worn due to being busty. But, when going outside was no longer an option, I opted to test Skims’ loungewear and it quickly became my work from home uniform. That’s why I had to try the silk collection when I saw it. Not only did the colors entice me, but there’s a luxe sentiment that I’ve always associated with silk. Not to mention, the pieces looked sultry, but the comfortable sexy, not the kind that’s just for the look. It didn’t disappoint.
Although I never sleep in pants, I’m a wide-leg pants girl when it comes to everyday style so, of course, I had to try the silk sleep pants and complete the look with the button-up shirt. Cocoa, the deep chocolate hue was faultless and complimented my skin tone, which I loved. I also loved how the silk material fell on my body so elegantly and moved with me, mostly the button down. It was an effortless lounge look and I’d even wear it outside, probably with a contrasting pair of cotton wide-leg pants with a cinched waist because my shape can easily get lost in the oversized fit of the top. But, for in the house, I love how it drapes and makes me feel like I’m dipped in luxury while lounging.
