Mestre competed with Stanford during the 2017-18 season and during the fall semester of the 2019-20 season. His last meets with Stanford were in fall 2019; he took the 2018-19 season off to train with Gator Swim Club in Florida, and he went on to race at the 2019 Pan American Games while representing Venezuela. He took the remainder of the 2019-20 season off to focus on the 2020 Olympics, which were then postponed to 2021.

At Pan Ams, he finished seventh in the 50 free with a time of 22.40, 11th in the 100 free (49.74 in prelims) and led off Venezuela’s fourth-place 4×100 free relay with a 49.75.

As a freshman during the 2017-2018 season, Mestre swam on relays for Stanford at NCAAs, splitting 19.02 on the sixth-place 200 free relay and 43.27 on the tenth-place 400 free relay.

With his lifetime bests, Mestre should be a strong conference scorer and a potential NCAA qualifier wherever he continues his education.
