David Fizdale Laments Knicks’ Blowout Loss to Nuggets

The Knicks put on a “sickening” performance Thursday night, according to head coach David Fizdale, during 129-92 blowout home loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Fizdale, so far anyway, has managed to hang on to his job through New York’s ugly eight-game losing skid

Fizdale continues to tell reporters that he’s unconcerned about his employment status during an otherwise hopeless season.

Per Newsday:

“I don’t care about all that,” Fizdale said. “I don’t even think about that, really. I think about the next team we’re playing, I think about the guys in the locker room and how I can help them. At the end of the day, that’s all I care about.”

Asked if he believed he was still, as has often been stated, on the same page with the front office, he said, “Yeah. Absolutely. I’m still coaching this team. I’m still pushing them. I’m still preparing them. We had a hell of a practice before this game, it was just a disappointing output.”

While the Nuggets (14-5) are among the league’s best teams, they had lost their last two games and were in the midst of a road trip. But it was the Knicks who looked worn out and giving up.

“Sickening,” Fizdale said. “They’ll have to re-watch it. Just like I’m going to watch it three or four times, they’re going to have to suffer through it as well.”

Nuggets Fan Said ‘Get on Your Knees’

Celtics guard Marcus Smart accused a Nuggets fan of making a racially-charged remark after he chased a loose ball into the stands during Friday night’s game at the Pepsi Center.

Smart was dissatisfied with arena security’s response after he reported the verbal taunt.

Denver held on for a 99-92 win against Boston, and the NBA said it is investigating the incident.

Per The Denver Post:

“My foot got stuck in a chair and a fan told me, ‘That’s right stay on the ground, get on your knees,’” Smart said after the game.

When contacted about the incident, the Nuggets said security looked into it and couldn’t determine what happened.

“I told (security) who it was,” Smart said. “They just looked at him and didn’t even say anything to him, didn’t even get him out of the game. Probably if I was a superstar, they probably would have done something for it, but it is what it is. … We’re going to end up protecting ourselves eventually and it’s not going to be pretty for those fans and we don’t want that.

“We don’t want that as players, but at some point you’ve got to stand up and you’ve got to protect yourself as a man.”
