The Care Station allows parents who use wheelchairs to bond with their newborns

The Care Station is a baby carrier for parents who use wheelchairs.

This groundbreaking attachment, by Australian-based company PWA Mobility, aims to help moms and dads with disabilities foster intimate relationships with their little ones.

The Care Station is an infant care capsule that fastens onto the front of a wheelchair or utility chair. The parent can then comfortably and easily perform parenting tasks with their child securely in position.

“The Care Station is the first of its kind due to the multiple direction movement system,” PWA Mobility stated. “With the ability to rotate 360 degrees and capability to tilt into an array of different vertical angled positions, feeding and hygiene-related tasks become effortless.”

The wheelchair accessory has an adjustable arm that can retract to adjust its height, distance and angle. This means the child can be positioned vertically (with the feet facing the parent) or horizontally (with the head and feet near the parent’s arms). The Care Station even has glow-in-the-dark handles and supports to making parenting easy even when the lights are off.

“What you’ve created, it would have made our parenting of our young son so much easier,” Carol, who became a quadriplegic after a car accident, told PWA Mobility.

Carol has limited arm mobility and strength but said a tool like The Care Station could have made a huge difference when her son was a baby.

“We had to have at least one or two people with me always to make sure that he was safe,” Carol said. “What you designed would allow me the freedom to wander with him on my own, to go out onto the veranda, I dare say it, maybe even to go for a walk in the garden.”

The Care Station is currently raising money on Kickstarter
