Tobin Heath is back – Equalizer Soccer

The past few months brought consistent questions as to whether Tobin Heath would be fit and in form for the Olympics, having gone without game action for club or country since late January. Each time the question was asked, there was assurance that Heath was on track to be ready, followed by word recently that she has been particularly impressive in training.

On Thursday, Heath ended any doubt within 60 seconds of entering the United States women’s national team’s 4-0 win over Mexico — her first action of the year for the U.S.. She came on in the 73rd minute and scored on her second touch of the game. It was a moment, she said afterward, that she had plenty of time to think about — and one which she said she thought she might not get, alluding to the initial severity of her injuries.

“It was huge. I didn’t know if I’d get to this place,” Heath said on Thursday. “Obviously, it took a lot of work and patience. Honestly, I had a lot of help. I have a lot of people to be thankful for that helped me along the way. I didn’t have much time, so I had to make the most of it all.”
