Why France’s front line could pose problems for USWNT – Equalizer Soccer

France went into this international break missing some of their best attacking options due to a COVID-19 outbreak at Lyon. Yet, despite being without the dizzying speed of winger Delphine Cascarino and the playmaking skill of Amel Majri, Les Bleues were able to comfortably dispatch England, 3-1 in last Friday’s friendly. Next up for France is the United States, and they may well represent the toughest offensive opponent the reigning world champions have faced during the Vlatko Andonovski era.

French manager Corinne Diacre left the hugely experienced Eugenie Le Sommer on the bench for the entirety of the win over England. Le Sommer has averaged just under one goal per game at the club level with Lyon, and just over a goal every two internationally over the last decade. She is one of the most intelligent inside forwards in the game right now, and it’s likely that France will call upon her against the U.S., though in truth her absence wasn’t felt last Friday.
