As part of V Magazine‘s Thought Leaders Issue, Taylor opened up about why she’s voting for Biden and Harris, saying that “under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.”
In the past few years, Taylor has become increasingly vocal about her political beliefs: The old Taylor is dead and in her place is one who bakes customized Biden/Harris cookies. Back in 2018, she advocated for Democratic candidates in Tennessee in the midterms, and she’s since voiced criticisms of President Trump. She told The Guardian in 2019, “I just wanna do everything I can for 2020. I wanna figure out exactly how I can help, what are the most effective ways to help.” In 2020, she’s commented on Trump’s debacle with the USPS, urged Tennessee to remove racist statues, and called out the president for “stoking the fires of white supremacy.”
Taylor addressed some of the issues she cares about in her words for V Magazine. “The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included,” she said, while also implying that the government’s response to COVID-19 has been telling.
“Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them.”
The VP debate airs tonight, October 7, at 9 p.m. ET. Here’s how to watch.
